Precision Levels & Layout Tools

The roots of the Mayes Brothers Tool Company reach all the way back to 1874, when skilled stone mason and bricklayer August Mayes began making his own levels. His levels were so good that other tradesmen began asking him to build the precision instruments for them, so he enlisted the help of his son John. In 1917 John and two of his brothers founded the Mayes Brothers Tool Company and their spirit of innovation and quality workmanship continues to this day.

In 1967, Mayes Brothers was acquired by GreatNeck Tools, LLC, a company with a long standing family tradition of quality manufacturing since 1919. This partnership has resulted in a long period of steady growth and innovation. GreatNeck and Mayes have entered into the new century with state-of-the-art manufacturing and world-wide distribution.
